Weld Mesh Frequently Asked Questions
What is welded mesh?
Welded mesh is a strong, durable grid of metal wires that are welded together at their intersections, as opposed to woven mesh, which is made by weaving metal wires over and under each other.
What are the differences between wire mesh and welded mesh?
Welded mesh is a type of wire mesh. Due to its rigidity, welded mesh is a stronger form of wire mesh compared to a woven product such as chicken wire netting.
Is welded mesh galvanised?
Welded mesh can be made from galvanised steel or stainless steel. Galvanising is a zinc coating which is applied to mild steel to protect it from rusting, whereas stainless steel is an alloy. Galvanized mesh offers excellent protection against corrosion, however stainless steel welded mesh is even more rust resistant.
Does welded mesh rust?
Galvanised welded mesh is well protected against rusting, and is suitable for use outdoors. For an even longer lasting mesh, stainless steel welded mesh offers an even higher level of protection against corrosion.
How do you cut welded mesh?
To cut welded mesh, you will need to use special fencing tools such as cutters and pliers. For light-weight welded mesh up to 1mm thick, a pair of aviation cutters will easily snip through the wire. If you are cutting heavier-duty mesh then a diagonal wire cutter is the perfect choice for cutting wire up to 3mm thick.
