Our woven stainless steel mesh offers a high level of protection against corrosion. We can offer either standard grade 304 stainless steel, or the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (sometimes called Marine Grade). Grade 316 stainless steel contains molybdenum, which is added to boost its resistance to corrosion and should be selected if the material is to be used in a salt water or coastal environment.
Please note that from time to time we may substitute grade 304 stainless steel for the higher quality grade 316 stainless steel (unless we are requested not to do so). The material is priced per linear metre here on our website, and we offer a bulk cutting service as well as a range of cut disc sizes. For cutting enquiries, please call our sales team on 01782 820970.

What do you need? | Solution: |
Rigid Mesh / Flexible Mesh | The strongest Woven Stainless Steel option is our Woven 2 Mesh 11mm aperture. This is a reasonably panel-like material. The strength / rigidity of woven mesh depends on the combination of hole size and wire thickness. Generally speaking, the lower the Mesh Count i.e. Woven 2 Mesh, Woven 3 Mesh, Woven 4 Mesh, Woven 5 Mesh, Woven 6 Mesh, the more rigid the mesh is. Woven mesh with a higher Mesh Count is finer and more flexible, for example our Woven 8 Mesh to Woven 60 Mesh start to become more cloth-like. The very finest options from Woven 80 Mesh to Woven 500 Mesh are much more delicate, and the Woven 500 Mesh is almost paper-like. We also offer a range of Stainless Steel Welded Mesh, the strongest options are our 50mm x 50mm 12 gauge Stainless Steel, and our Stainless Steel Welded Mesh Panels. If you need a smaller hole then our 13mm x 13mm 16 gauge Weld Mesh is a strong, reasonably panel-like mesh. |
Longest Lasting | The two most popular grades of stainless steel are Grade 316 and Grade 304. Both grades offer superior levels of rust resistance, and are therefore longer lasting than Galvanized Mesh and PVC Coated Mesh. Grade 316 stainless is even more rust resistant than Grade 304 stainless, and is often referred to as Marine Grade stainless. |
Mesh For Marine Environment / Coastal Location | For a marine environment or coastal location, we would recommend using Grade 316 Stainless Steel as this offers the best rust protection where salt may be present in the atmosphere. |
Small Quantity | Our Woven Stainless Steel mesh is all sold by the metre. If you require more than 1m, then simply select the quantity in metres you require and we will supply a roll to that length e.g. if you select quantity x 3 then we will send a 1.22m x 3m roll. |
Large Quantity | We offer price breaks on our website for larger orders of woven stainless steel. If you are looking for bulk order prices, then please Contact Us and we will look at this for you. |
Rodent Mesh | Woven 10 Mesh has a 1.98mm x 1.98mm hole and is ideal for keeping out mice, rats and even larger insects such as house flies, bees and wasps. For Rodent Proofing we also offer a range of Stainless Steel Weld Mesh for keeping out both rats and mice. The 6mm x 6mm hole size in a welded mesh is small enough to keep mice out, and the harder stainless steel wire is strong enough to prevent rats from chewing through. |
Filtration Mesh | If you are looking to replace an existing mesh, then you can either post a small sample to us for identification or you can confirm the Mesh Count (count how many holes there are on the mesh across a linear inch) and the wire thickness. This will allow us to identify the closest match. |
Not Sure What I Need | If you’re not sure what you need, please Get In Touch with our experienced sales team. Alternatively, we offer sample sizes across our Woven Stainless Steel range – these are available to purchase on the product pages. |
Woven Wire Mesh Frequently Asked Questions |
What is the difference between woven mesh and wire mesh? |
Woven mesh is a type of wire mesh. It is made by weaving metal wires over and under each other. This is different to welded wire mesh where the wires are laid on top of each other and welded at the intersection. |
What is woven mesh used for? |
Woven wire mesh has a wide range of uses, including architectural mesh, mesh for car grills, kitchen cabinet mesh, filtration mesh, pest proofing. |
How long does woven wire mesh last? |
Stainless steel woven wire mesh can last for many years, even decades, depending on the installation, its location, and how well the material is looked after. Our woven wire mesh is fabricated from stainless steel which offers the highest level of rust resistance. We offer Grade 304 and Grade 316 stainless steel woven mesh. |
What is the difference between Grade 304 and Grade 316 woven stainless steel? |
Whilst both Grade 304 and Grade 316 provide excellent resistance to corrosion, Grade 316 is the best choice for salt water or coastal locations and it is often referred to as Marine Grade stainless steel. |
How do you secure a woven wire mesh? |
Woven wire mesh will often need to be framed and can be secured into place either by wedging the material into place between battens, fixed to a frame using staples, or secured with screws and large washers. |
How is woven wire mesh measured? |
Woven wire mesh is usually specified by a combination of both the thickness of the wire and what is known as the mesh count. The mesh count is the number of wires that can be counted across a linear inch on the material (also known as the LPI, or Lines Per Inch). For example, a woven 20 Mesh has 20 wires across an inch. The mesh count together with the wire thickness determines the aperture of the material i.e. the hole size. |
How to clean stainless steel woven mesh |
Stainless steel woven mesh can be easily cleaned with hot soapy water and a sponge or brush. Please note that bleach shouldn't be used to clean stainless steel, as the chloride contained in bleach can corrode stainless steel alloy. |
